This event had been anticipated as one of the stronger runnings of this unique seven-furlong contest for female horses. Yet, vet checks led to multiple withdrawals this morning, including leading runners Sweet Azteca as well as Tamara.

Consequently, the lineup looks much smaller, but trainer Bob Baffert has a major opportunity to claim his 20th Breeders’ Cup win. His entrants feature Richi along with Splendora, whereas Hope Road, winner of the Grade One Ballerina Stakes, is viewed as the primary threat.
